TORONTO, May 12, 2017 /CNW/ – Following the final Team Challenge and a daunting Pressure Test, MASTERCHEF CANADA judges Michael Bonacini, Alvin Leung, and Claudio Aprile revealed that Mai Nguyen, a safety advisor from Edmonton, Alta. would be the next home cook eliminated from the competition in this week’s episode. With three home cooks now remaining, MASTERCHEF CANADA returns Thursday, May 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO as the home cooks take one luxury ingredient and create a dish using it three different ways.
On this week’s episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, the final four home cooks arrived at a picturesque Ontario orchard to compete in their final Team Challenge. The home cooks were then surprised by their loved ones, and tasked to create an elegant family dinner that showcases the autumn harvest and also displays how much they’ve grown during the competition. As the home cook with the winning dish in last week’s Elimination Challenge, Barrie got to choose his teammate for the Red Team and chose Trevor, leaving Mai and Thea as partners on the Blue Team. The two teams were given two hours to create magnificent plates for all their VIP guests. The judges received feedback from the families during dinner, and decided on the winning team and which team would face the Pressure Test.
The next morning, the home cooks returned to the MASTERCHEF CANADA Kitchen to learn their fate. Barrie and Trevor won the challenge and were sent up to the gallery by the judges while Mai and Thea donned black aprons for the Pressure Test. The two home cooks were given 45 minutes to replicate a complex and multi-layered tropical dessert called the Hawaiian Mountain Cloud. Thea’s dessert inched ahead when it came to flavour and execution while the judges were disappointed to find a piece of aluminum in Mai’s dessert, sending her home from the competition.
In the next all-new episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, “Sweet Francaise” (Thursday, May 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT), the final three home cooks find the MASTERCHEF CANADA kitchen transformed, as they’re tasked with filling individual display cases with delectable sweets. The judges and a visiting group of pastry experts will determine who receives a huge advantage. The final Elimination Challenge pits all three home cooks against one another as they compete for the two spots in the finale, using one luxury ingredient in three innovative and irresistible ways to create a dish.
The final three home cooks vying for the title of MASTERCHEF CANADA and the $100,000 cash prize are:
- Barrie McConachie, an employee relations consultant, from Vancouver, B.C.
- Thea VanHerwaarden, a broker, from Vancouver, B.C.
- Trevor Connie, a plumber/gas fitter, from Edmonton, Alta.
