Burgoo | Vancouver

What’s not to say about delicious comfort food; Gooey Cheese, Warm homemade soups, Toasted breads, Pastas bound to give you a heart attack but SOOO worth every bite.  So when place called Burgoo came into my neighbourhood and screamed “comfort food”, I was sunk. That’s been 4 years ago and I still keep going without boredom.  At one point, I was eating there every. other. day.  Not good for the waistline so I’ve had to refrain from going as much (good luck).

Here are some of my favorites ( I wish I could pick them all)

The After School  Special – Any Soup and Sandwich $18

Gooey Cheese Grillers & Straight up Tomato Soup

SERIOUSLY – if you could eat ONE just one grilled cheese,  This. Is. It.  Filled with melted Mozzarella, Gruyere, Emmenthal and White Cheddar Cheese and served on two angle cut house baguettes.  Serve that with some dunking power of a vine ripened tomato soup which is simmered with red wine and garlic; it’ll put your childhood comfort food to SHAME.  This will give you your cheese fill plus some.

Nacho Pollo  $14

If you’re a Nachos (or Cho’s as I call them) person, then this is a seller for you.  The Nacho Pollo at Burgoo is a deliciously simple; only the good stuff.   Free Run Chicken, Poblano pepper, Jalapeno, melted cheeses with Salsa Verde &  Cilantro.  This is a perfect dish to share before you dig into more cheesy goodness…..or, in my case, to start before I devour the Grilled Cheese.

ANNDDD … if that doesn’t tickle your fancy and you crave something a tad (and we say tad) more healthy then the above then you want to keep reading!

Tastiest Chicken Sandwich $15.50  & The (yes ‘The’) Spinach Salad $6

Where to start…. Well lets go with the Sandwich first. This is my back up plan when I don’t have the Gooey Cheese Griller.  Roasted Free Run Chicken, Bacon, Brie, Diced Apple and Onion jam with Dijon Mayonnaise, Greens; open faced style on a fresh baguette.  Add that with THE Spinach Salad which includes Spinach (naturally – it’s in the name), Apple, Bacon, Red Onion, Feta and a Bacon thyme vinaigrette and you have bliss.
